By 2020, let’s make Santa Barbara an example for environmental sustainability improvement for other cities to follow.

To measure impact, we identify broad areas that
will move the needle:

Water - conservation targets, recapture, etc.

Food - production, transport & consumption

Land/BUILT ENVIRONMENT - agriculture, development, land use, toxic pesticides

Energy - % alternative vs. fossil fuel-based, conservation

Consumption/WASTE - reusable vs. landfill waste, energy efficiency, etc.

Transportation - mass TRANSIT, carpool, biking, walking, electric cars

We’ll then leverage the latest technology to develop a Sustainability Index across these areas to bring awareness and a unified vision for the community to promote positive change.

Consolidation provides one common view of what is working, what is not working, and unifies the community toward a common goal.
